Well, everything so far is going pretty smoothly. Last weekend me and Kirk spent a few more days in Managua getting together some last minute large items to take over to the island with us having made the decision to make that our home. The best part about living there will of course be being able to refer to your home as “the island” sounds mysterious or kind of like an NBC Thursday night drama series not sure.
We rented our truck and got our things together and of course like optimistic fools thought it would only take a couple of hours to complete the move where as in reality the day started at 8 am and we didn’t arrive to our destination until 9:30 that night, its weird what happens to the time here it just kind of all fuses into one misty moment, one second its there and then its gone. Literally all we did was pick up a fridge, load up our stuff and make a 2 ½ hour drive to the ferry and then took a 1 hour ferry ride, (actually we didn’t know we had to reserve our car a spot on the boat so we ended up waiting 3 hours for the next available ferry, which then dropped us off on the other side of the island… I guess that’s where the time went, oh well.)
Then our friends Jeff and Carley Snethen came up from Costa Rica and bless their big hearts and willing bodies helped us get our new place up and running, of course the weekend wouldn’t be complete without a wonderful detour to Granada for a few days…ahhh a.c units.
We’ve discovered many wonderful things about our new place, like all the rodent poop living above the drop ceiling tiles, of course one doesn’t find that out until every heavy object has been put in place and the place has been cleaned spotless. Oh well. Yesterday was our first Sunday meeting in our new cong. We Had 80 in attendance, pretty good for only 35 publishers. There was of course only about 10 of us about 4 min. before the meeting started and then all of sudden a truck with at least 20-25 people crammed into it showed up. Literally arms legs and heads sticking out in all direction and standing in the bed, I wish I had had my camera. Speaking of which the batteries died and I’m on quest to find new ones so no pictures this time sorry.
Today was fun. Apparently our cong. Has only one of a very few lawnmowers used in the country by a kingdom hall (excluding the branch). 2 brave sister were taught how to use one (it really does take both of them, again wish I had had my camera.) One to hold the mower while the other pulls the cord and then while its running the other sister walks closely behind prepared to at any moment push the other sister out of harms way were the mower to turn on them. Our yard looks great however. So no momentous occasions just yet but this week starts our new service routine so we’ll keep everybody posted.
With much love
Kirk and Kelly
